Japanese street artist Taka at RCHK
The wait is over! In an official ceremony on 13 February, we unveiled a stunning mural created by Japanese street artist Taka at our school’s front entrance. This special project with Taka (@ta_x_ka on Instagram) is the brainchild of our Head of Visual Arts, Mr. Deakin.
In mid-January 2023, we took up where we left off! Taka elevated the front entrance to reach new heights, and scholars from this year had the invaluable opportunity to learn from him and gain hands-on experience as they painted the biggest flower of the mural together.
In addition to working his magic on the walls, Taka worked closely with the Visual Arts department and formed bonds college-wide. He collaborated with Primary students on an artwork to be displayed in the Primary Office. He also shared with the After-school Arts Club what Ma On Shan is like in his eyes by drawing it step-by-step on the whiteboard. Students learnt about embodying traditional Japanese art in their drawings.
It is a great pleasure to have Taka contributing to this significant chapter of the RCHK history book – his talent and passion for street art left a mark not only on the campus walls but also in our hearts. Taking a page out of our Primary students’ book, we want to say a big ‘ありがとうございます’ (‘thank you’ in Japanese)!
